Sam Armentrout is currently serving his fifth consecutive term in office as a Council Member. Council Members serve four year terms. Sam was first elected to the City Council in 1992 and reelected in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008.
The Mayor’s position is rotated annually amongst the Council Members. Sam previously served as Mayor in 1996, 2001 and 2009.
Council Members also serve as Board Members of the Madera Redevelopment Agency and Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Madera. Sam is the current Chairperson for the two agencies.
Sam is a native Maderan who attended Madera schools through high school. After high school, he enrolled at Fresno City College where he obtained his Associate of Arts Degree (AA) in Criminology. This degree led to a 20-year career as a member of the Madera Police Department Reserve Unit where he retired with the rank of Captain. Sam is currently employed as the Director of Transportation/Security for Madera Unified School District and has been there for 4 years.
Sam is married to Susan Armentrout.
In addition to their regular duties as members of the City Council, the Redevelopment Agency, and the Housing Authority, Council Members are appointed to serve on other boards as representatives of the City Council. They are also active in community organizations.
